Jordan Under the Ottomans

Jordan was part of the Ottoman Empire from 1516 until 1918. During four centuries the region's towns, including a modest Amman, grew around trade routes and pilgrim caravans to Mecca, later served by the Sultan Abdul Hamid Hejaz Railway from Damascus through Amman and Ma'an to Aqaba.
