The Azraq Wetland Reserve, established in 1978 and covering about 12 square kilometres in the eastern desert, is Jordan's only wetland reserve and a vital oasis on the migration route. Around 350 bird species have been recorded here, making it a top birdwatching in Jordan destination.
Boardwalks wind through reeds, pools and salt flats where herons, waders, warblers and waterfowl feed in winter and during passage.
